Numerical Simulation of Fluid Membranes in Two-Dimensional Space

چکیده
The membrane’s dynamics is very important for cells. A membrane in 2dimensional space can be seen as an incompressible closed curve in a plane or a cylindrical surface in 3-dimensional space. In this paper, we design a second-order accurate numerical algorithm to simulate the shape transformation of the membrane. In the algorithm, we use the tangent angles to present the curve and avoid the difficulties from the constraint of curve’s incompressible condition. A lot of interesting phenomena are obtained. Some of them are very like the life processes of cells, such as exocytosis and endocytosis. Furthermore, we can see the relation between two dynamic models clearly. At last, considering the influence of the inner incompressible fluids partially, we add a constraint: the area circled by the membrane maintain invariable. The numerical results show the dynamic motions of a curve remaining its local arc length and inner area constant. AMS subject classifications: 65M06, 65M12, 92C17

Numerical Simulation of the Hydrodynamics of a Two-Dimensional Gas—Solid Fluidized Bed by New Finite Volume Based Finite Element Method
n this work, computational fluid dynamics of the flow behavior in a cold flow of fluidized bed is studied. An improved finite volume based finite element method has been introduced to solve the two-phase gas/solid flow hydrodynamic equations. This method uses a collocated grid, where all variables are located at the nodal points. The fluid dynamic model for gas/solid two-phase flow is based on ...

For a Czochralski growth of Ge crystal, thermal fields have been analysed numerically using the three-dimensional finite volume method (FLUENT package). The arrangement used in a real Czochralski crystal growth lab included a graphite crucible, heat shield, heating device, thermal insulation and chamber including two gas outlets. We have considered two cases for calculations, which are configur...
متن کاملStatistical mechanics of membranes: freezing, undulations, and topology fluctuations
Membranes are two-dimensional sheets of molecules which are embedded and fluctuate in three-dimensional space. The shape and out-of-plane fluctuations of tensionless membranes are controlled by their bending rigidity. Due to their out-of-plane fluctuations, flexible membranes exhibit very different behaviour to flat two-dimensional systems. We discuss three properties of membranes: (i) the reno...
